In-Flight Beauty Bag Must Haves

I'm willing to bet that everyone can agree that no matter how long a flight is, it feels like all of the moisture is just sucked out of your skin the second a plane leaves the ground. I hate mostly everything about flying and although I don't let it keep me back from traveling, my skin wishes it would sometimes! Between the massive, rapid switch of temperature and the cabin pressure and circulating air for however many hours... It's not fun. For quite a while I always thought it was just something we all had to deal with and there wasn't much to do to fix it but then I realized - who really cares what anyone looks like on an airplane?! I remember flying to Italy one summer a few years ago and shamelessly putting a sheet mask on on my red eye flight. It may not be foolproof to combat the awfully dry air 40,000+ feet above the clouds but it sure did make a difference!

Ever since then I have, again, shamelessly done a full skincare routine on nearly every flight I've been on since and have no plans of stopping anytime soon, hah! On shorter flights I don't go all out (promise I'm not that crazy! ;) but I will wear minimal makeup and use a moisturizer, blotting sheets, etc. to maintain my sanity. I HATE that dry skin feeling and clearly will do anything to stay far, far away from it! Here's my tried-and-true must haves for your beauty bag - that'll also clear TSA - that you need for every flight from here on out:

This cosmetic bag has quickly become my very favorite ever! It's so large and you really don't realize just how much it'll fit until you start filling it up - there's an inside pocket and um hello, monogrammed!! So fun and a perfect gift idea too - the waffle knit material is my favorite part!
Get yours here - you will love it!

Best moisturizers to use in-flight:

Yes, I bring multiple moisturizers. Guilty as charged and proud of it. ;) They're products I'd normally bring on a trip with me anyway so I like to keep my options opened on the plane! But more than that, I wanted to share all of the ones I've used and loved so that you all can pick and choose which you try based on your skin's individual needs.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream: I've been using this moisturizer after my skincare routine at night lately because the air is starting to get dry and cold and with hardly any humidity, my skin is feeling soo dry. I tried this out on a plane ride for the first time recently and loved it - it doesn't make your skin feel heavy or oily but still hydrates so it's perfect for a plane ride! It's super light and a little bit goes a very long way - it's the best because you can't tell at ALL that it's on, which is great for the plane, even if it's a short flight.

Clinique Moisture Surge: how many times can I possibly rave about this stuff?! Hah! I buy jars at a time because it's my saving grace. It's top five best beauty products I've ever owned/used and of course it's in my makeup bag on a flight with me! It's especially great for dryness and gives your skin that extra little boost it needs. It's especially great for longer/overnight flights where you need something to refresh your skin after sleeping.

Origins Ginzing Energy Boosting Gel Moisturizer: during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty sale most recently, I purchased an Origins skincare set to try out; it ended up being one of the best purchases and the products are now some of my favorites *ever*. This gel moisturizer is one of the products from the kit and since, I've bought multiple travel sized tubes and the larger jar and I am obsessed! It's perfect for a morning moisturizer and it may sound kind of silly, but it quite literally wakes me up after washing my face and it smells like orange zest - it's amazing!! I've been using it for almost two months now and I can already see a huge difference in my skin just by using it once a day. SO perfect for a red-eye flight!

Murad Nutrient-Charged Water Gel: this travel sized jar came as a sample in one of my Sephora orders a while ago and when I took it with me on a trip, I tried using it when I got onto the plane and while it was a fairly short flight, I noticed that my skin didn't get nearly as dry or tight as it would of without it.

First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Cream: my favorite part about this moisturizer is how quickly it absorbs! It's very cooling and soothing and it's the perfect consistency/weight to wear under your makeup - I also love that it doesn't leave you looking oily at all but feels like it's constantly working to keep you moisturized and not dry.

Hydrating skin products for your flight:

When it comes to keeping your hands from completely drying out on the plane, my go-tos are Aquaphor and Lano Hand Cream. I lather my lips in Aquaphor and apply the Lano Hand Cream multiple times throughout a flight! I'm never a fan of planes (like I mentioned, what, 97 times already?) but I'm really not a fan of how it makes my skin feel. I honestly will apply as many products as I need to combat the dry, dry, DRY in-cabin air! I use Aquaphor daily on my lips and any dry spots on my face/hands/skin and it's basically a miracle worker - I don't go anywhere without it!

Other in-flight beauty bag must haves:

Oil Blotting Papers: I use more than these than I'd ever like to admit on a flight... On top of that dry/tight feeling, there's the never ending oil production. I us one right before applying my in-flight moisturizer and throughout also.

Invisibobble Hair Ties: I have thick, curly hair and even I love these! If you have thicker hair and have yet to try these, just know that you'll probably only be able to put your hair through it once - but once is enough. It holds your hair in place and is so easy to remove, making it perfect to use on your flight and take your hair down once you land. Another problem I (and I know it isn't just me!) face during a flight is the STATIC. Ugh, the static and frizz. I always opt to tie my hair back in hopes of preventing that from happening as much as possible!

Mario Badescu Facial Spray: one spray onto your face and you will feel sooo refreshed! This is like a miracle worker, basically. It comes everywhere with me - be sure to get the travel sized one, I made that mistake once!

Detox Dry Shampoo: unpopular opinion coming in 3..2... I am not at ALL a fan of dry shampoo. I know for many it's the greatest thing that the beauty industry has ever come up with, but I'm just not a fan. I wash my hair a lot and love to style my hair so it's never been my thing. But if you have a red-eye flight and need to freshen up before getting off the plane, this is the best dry shampoo ever. I LOVE that it comes in this little travel size - I don't ever use it unless I'm taking a red-eye flight so it's the perfect size to fit in my makeup bag!

XOXO -A

  1. You posted this so I could buy more stuff for my flights didn't you? LOL I love this list EXCEPT that you don't do dry shampoo!? That's my jam, but you gave good reasoning as to why you don't use it. I can forgive you. Do the invsibobble actually hold your hair? I haven't tried, I feel like it won't hold! Love youuuuu <3

  40. Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
